Insect Care

MEALWORMS & SUPERWORMS

Mealworms and superworms are some of the easiest of all our availiable insects to keep, all you really need to do is give them a substrate of oats, make sure it is deep enough to accomodate all of them comfortably, you will also need to add vegetable slices to provide water and nutrition for them at least three times a week, amounts will vary depending on population, if you want to breed them, all the same should be done but they should be kept at room temperature, you will start to see little black and brown darkling beetles after a while, these are really only good for breeding as most reptiles and spiders will refuse to eat them.

FEEDER ROACHES

Feeder cockroaches are also extremely easy to keep and breed, all you should need to do is get a large 18 gallon plastic container, and fill it with eggcrates, you will need to drill holes in the lid, or if you want better ventiltion you can also cut a hole in the top of the lid and glue on some mesh screen. For food all you will need to do is provide a constant mixture of dry foods, we reccomend a mix of catfood and oats, and add in vegetables for a source of water at least threetimes a week, remove anything they do not eat within 24 hours, or it could mold and kill off your entire colony, it is also very important to remember NOT to give them spinach as it contains a toxin that will kill them and youre animals! They will also need external heat such as a heat pad or heat tape.

PET ROACHES

Pet cockroaches that you wish to keep for display or entertainment can be kept in a similar manner to feeder roaches, however they typically need more specific temperatures and humidity, for the best view, they should be kept in a ten gallon tank or a Kritter Keeper, some can be kept at room temp and others will need heat pads or heat tape, for the best info on specific types of cockroaches we reccomend preforming an internet search on the exact type of roach you have or arre planning on getting.
